Africa Famine
Give Now and help combat Famine in the Horn of Africa.
Charles Wesley United Methodist Church’s goal is to raise $5,000 to help feed those caught in the northern Africa famine! Donate - tell others - and pray 11 million to 12 million people in Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti are affected by the worst drought in decades. Church World Service, UMCOR (the United Methodist Committee on Relief), and other members of the faith-based ACT Alliance are coordinating their response. The hunger crisis has been deepened by civil strife. This is not a sudden onset disaster, but it’s one that is finally getting the media attention that it needs to generate awareness and the subsequent support. Courtesy of IBC According to the United Nations, today’s drought is the worst the region has seen in half a century. It has provoked acute malnutrition and death, especially among children and other vulnerable populations. People walk for weeks to reach a refugee camp and the hope of food. When the weak die along the way, there is no place to bury them. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is recognized worldwide as the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church. Working in more than 80 countries, including the United States, UMCOR's mission is to alleviate human suffering—whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster. Like Jesus, UMCOR responds with hearts and minds open to all people. Because Methodists support all the administrative costs of UMCOR through a separate annual gift, all money given to special appeals, like this famine relief in Africa, go directly to disaster response. We invite you to contribute to this urgent effort. Here’s how you can get involved: Make a donation. There are two easy options for giving. 1.
